Getting started

Five minutes from install to a searchable, filed chat history.

1. Install

Add ChatJump from the Chrome Web Store, then open chatgpt.com or gemini.google.com. If a tab was already open, reload it. The ChatJump panel appears in the sidebar, above your conversation list.

2. Save a chat

Open a conversation and press Save this chat. The panel reports how many turns it saved. For a long chat, scroll to the top first so the site loads older messages, then save again; ChatJump keeps the larger capture.

Save sidebar list records the titles of every conversation in the sidebar, so they show up in search by title even before you save their content.

3. File it in folders and tags

Press New folder, give it a name and optionally a parent. Tick a folder to file the saved chat; a chat can be in several folders, across both sites. Type tags separated by commas and press Save tags. Hover a folder row to rename, delete or export it.

4. Search

Press Search in the panel or Ctrl+Shift+Space (Cmd+Shift+Space on Mac). Type what you remember, in your own words. Results are ranked by meaning and by keyword. Filter by site or folder with the two menus, move with the arrow keys and press Enter to open the chat.

5. Export

With a saved chat open, press Export Markdown or Export JSON. On a folder row, the small md and json buttons export every chat in that folder as one file. Files download to your computer.

6. Import your ChatGPT history

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, Data controls, Export data. ChatGPT emails a ZIP within a day.
  2. Unzip it and find conversations.json.
  3. Right-click the ChatJump icon in Chrome, choose Options, and pick that file under Import.

Imported chats are searchable like saved ones. If a chat was already saved with more content, the import keeps the fuller version.

7. Check storage, test the model, or start over

The options page shows how many conversations, messages and search chunks are stored, lets you test the search model, and has Clear all ChatJump data when you want a clean slate.

Everything above happens on your device. ChatJump has no account and makes no network requests. See the privacy policy.
